Samardzic: Gov't accepted giving Kosovo away

Slobodan Samardzic, deputy leader of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), said Monday that the Serbian government has definitively accepted giving the entire Kosovo away in exchange for obtaining a date for the start of EU membership negotiations.

“Our government is expeditiously meeting demands made by Pristina and Brussels, aiming to see all the conditions imposed on Serbia actualized as soon as possible so the country could get a date for the EU accession talks,” Samardzic told a news conference held at the DSS headquarters. Criticizing Belgrade's negotiating team and Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, its lead negotiator in the political talks with Pristina, for not informing the parliament about stages reached in the dialogue, Samardzic said that the government is informing the public about the dialogue in a rudimentary, deficient, and “sometimes even counterfeit” manner. He added that the Serbian government is trying to create the impression that it is fighting for a new kind of autonomy for the Kosovo Serbs and therefore demands the creation of a community of municipalities in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244. But the question is why the government accepted to dismantle the existing community of Serb municipalities in Kosovo, operative since the end of June 2008, said Samardzic.
