Vucic: Considerable results in meeting EU criteria

Serbia has achieved considerable results in the dialogue on Kosovo problems with Pristina and in meeting the EU membership criteria, Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said in his address to the German Bundestag's Committee on the Affairs of the European Union on Wednesday.

Vucic said that Serbia is expecting two important reports by the European Commission in April that should convince the European Council of Ministers that Serbia deserves to get a date for the start EU membership negotiations in June 2013.He pointed out that Serbia embarked on the very difficult road to the EU 13 years ago, it had to start the painful economic reforms and rebuild its institutions, and also deal with difficult political issues, the Serbian government's media relations office said in a release. The progress Serbia has made so far has been slow, leaving the citizens of Serbia disappointed, as they started to believe that the EU accession is a political issue, rather than something that has to do with progress and a better life, Vucic said. He stressed, however, that the present government, did not wait until the last minute to do something.“We started working from the first day the government was formed and have achieved considerable results in meeting the requirements and criteria vital for obtaining a date for the EU accession talks, all in only seven months,” Vucic said. Aslo in the Serbian delegation, which is on a two-day visit to Berlin, are Chair of the Serbian parliament's European Integration Committee Milica Delevic and presidential advisor Marko Djuric.
