Serbian Premier Vojislav Kostunica firmly rejected the possibility that Belgrade might bend under international pressure and play along the U.S. plan to recognize the independent Kosovo.
"The entire Serbia must strongly and unequivocally show that it does not recognize that illegal entity and that the province of Kosovo and Metohija is an integral and inalienable part of Serbia," Kostunica told state-run News Agency Tanjug.
Speaking ahead of the last round of negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, Kostunica said that Serbian authorities would immediately annul any unilateral moves, including one-sided declaration of Kosovo's independence, as announced by Kosovo Albanian leaders.
Kostunica called on Kosovo Serbs to remain calm and stay in their homes, describing their presence in the province as of utmost importance for Belgrade institutions.
"American or any other recognition of unilateral independence of Kosovo cannot turn an unlawful situation into something normal," the Serbian prime minister said.
